As the world celebrates the birth of Christ and New Year, the physically challenged people are urged to have faith in Christ for total restoration and liberation.
The wife of Executive Chairman, Mkpat Enin Local Government Council, Mrs. Idara Ephraim Akpan gave the advice during the end of year/ Christmas party organized by the Mkpat Enin first lady for the physically challenged at her country home in Nyadiong.
Our Correspondent observed that more than 100 physically challenged people from across the 14 wards of Mkpat Enin benefitted from the magnanimity of the Chairman’s wife.
Speaking at the well attended event, Mrs Idara Ephraim Akpan, challenged faith of the people, who were confronted with problems to cast their belief in Christ for total freedom, from whatever area they were being tested, assuring them that there is hope.
She reminded them that the hustle-bustle of this world will one day end; asking “when it happens, where will you spend eternity? What will you be remembered for? Have you added value to the life of others or depleted it?”
The Mkpat Enin First Lady however charged the people to make their decision now as they celebrate Christmas and New Year.
Mrs Akpan, who was full of joy and appreciation for God said the purpose of the event was in response to divine instruction to organize it and however thanked his husband, Hon Ephraim Akpan for graciously supporting the empowerment programme.
She used the occasion to assure the people of Mkpat Enin, the Ephraim Akpan led administration’s commitment to their welfare, particularly those with special needs.
Mrs Idara Akpan specifically appreciated the wife of the Governor, Mrs Ekaette Unoma Akpabio for the incredible work of charity that the State’s First Lady has been engaged in since 2007 when her husband Governor Godswill Akpabio assumed office as the Chief Executive of the state.
She noted that Mrs Akpabio has been there for the needy, the handicapped, widows, children with special needs, victims of child labour, those stigmatised as child witches and cast out onto the streets as well as the poor of all descriptions.
Responding on behalf of the physically challenged persons, the Chairman of the group, Joint National Association of people with Disabilities, Mr Matthais Umoh, appreciated the wife of the chairman for her generosity.
Mr. Umoh not that the Chairman’s wife has so far encouraged the physically challenged in Mkpat Enin to do at least one thing well, so that they would not only be useful to themselves, but also be needed by others.
Meanwhile, it was fun as the physically challenged people danced to the glory of God, while the hearing impaired did not know what to dance and when to stop, others danced the way they knew best.
Highpoint of the event was distribution of clothing, wrapper, food items and cash.
