PETER AND PAUL OKOYE PLAN TO HAVE THEIR “WHITE WEDDING” ON SAME DAY
Paul and Peter Okoye, popularly known as P-
Square, are unarguably the hottest musical
sensation in Africa at the moment, and since
doing things together comes naturally to
them, many had expected that they would get
married on the same day.
But Paul was left behind when Peter got
married to traditionally to the mother of his
two sons, Lola Omotayo, on the 17th of
November, 2013.
According to reliable sources, when asked why
he did not also perform the traditional
marriage of Anita Isima, his fiancee and baby
mama on the same day, Paul disclosed that
the main reason Peter got married before him
was that the two women are from different
tribes and different traditions and ways of
doing things.
“Anita is Igbo, while Lola is Yoruba. The
traditional marriage has to be in her (Anita’s)
hometown. But we might be having a big,
white wedding together”. Paul said.
SHOCK OF LIFE: EX-FOOTBALLER DISCOVERS 3 CHILDREN WITH WIFE OF 20-YEARS ARE NOT HIS
After over 20 years of
marriage, former Ghana
International footballer,
Nii Ordartey Lamptey, has
just shockingly discovered
that all 3 children he has
fathered all these years
with his wife are not his biological children.
The footballer made this shocking revelation
during an interview on radio when he was
asked why he and his wife were getting
divorced.
"I thought they were my children but upon a
DNA test, I got to know that they are not my
biological children. The issue is in court so I'm
pleading, because it is a legal issue I don't
want to go through so many things, but I am
100% sure that the children are not mine
after 20-years of marriage. We had five
children but two passed away so we were left
with only 3 and they are not mine, " Odartey
said.
According to report, his wife known as Gloria
Lamptey (pictured below) is claiming her
husband, Odartey is infertile and he was the
one who suggested they use artificial
insemination. A claim Lamptey denies.
However, a source close to the former
footballer said he'd on several occasions
caught his wife cheating on him but stayed
with her because of his love for her and the
businesses they own together.
The estranged couple are now in court.
During Nii Odartey Lamptey's career, he
played as a striker from 1990 until 2008
notably for Aston Villa, PSV Eindhoven,
Coventry City and the Ghana national football
team.

PAUL BASSEY: CONVERSATION WITH A GOLDEN EAGLET PARENT
Telephone rings…….
Chief Effiong……Hello who is this?
Alhaji Maigari. ..If I am on to Chief Effiong, I
am Aminu Maigari the President of the NFF
Chief Effiong….Ah interesting how are you?
You are the one who wants to teach me how to
manage my son? When I bought him his first
ball when he was three years old where were
you? At age six, I got him a football boot
because I knew he was destined for greatness.
You needed to be at my house on that day of
the final. Over fifty people came to watch the
match with me. Neighbours, relatives and well
wishers they all came.
And my wife had to cook for all of them
because we knew there was going to be a
celebration at the end of the match.
Do you know how much we spent for food and
the drinks?
Without consulting me as the father, you went
and wrote the two million naira cheque in his
name. Do you know how much we spend every
time he plays? You went and wrote a two
million naira cheque in the name of a 16 year
old?
I want to return the cheque so that you can
reissue it in my name.
Alhaji Maigari. ….on the contrary sir, I advice
that you use the cheque to open an account in
his name, so that as he grows up you can help
him to invest and….
Chief Effiong.. ( cuts in ) Invest what? I have
told you what we have put in so far to bring
him to this level and you want to put enmity
between me and my son?
Alhaji Maigari….God forbid sir. In fact that is
why I called to first of all congratulate you for
siring a child who has the potential of
becoming a great footballer if properly
nurtured
Chief Effiong….Did you hear when I told you
that I knew he was going to be great? Look if
not for injury, today I would have been one of
Nigeria’s best footballers. I played for my
primary school and I was always the one called
upon to take corner kicks…
Alhaji Maigari….No wonder your son is so
good. Congrats Sir. As earlier said we will find
time to sit with you and discuss how best to
handle your son’s future, because right from
UAE, we noticed the influx of scouts who we
believe can short circuit the future of these
boys if we do not intervene.
Chief Effiong…listen Alahaji Maigari, I am not
a novice, I know what is good for my son and
I do not need you to tell me about his future…
Alhaji Maigari. ….hold on sir, talk to the
Honourable Sports Minister.
Chief Effiong….Hon Minister, are you one of
those who want to reap from where you did
not sow?
Hon Minister…..I beg your pardon
Chief…..reap from where we did not sow? If
you must know. We are the ones that have
sowed. This country invested millions in those
children. For the past three years we have
given them the best in terms of comfort of
living and personal development. I don’t know
about your son, but nearly all those kids
stayed in hotels for the first time when we
took them over. None of them had flown in an
aircraft before. Since we adopted them they
have benefited the best of training from first
class coaches and international academies.
Ask them about the Aspire Academy in Dubai,
five star hotels, best of airlines……they owe
this country Sir you owe us for bringing your
child to the level where he has become a
global celebrity…dines with Presidents, met
face to face with Mr Vice President, Senate
President, Speaker of The House, Ministers…..
Chief Effiong ….Hon Minister, I withdraw my
statement.. I think you have a point there…..I
apologise. In fact it was when he always came
back from camp that we discovered he could
eat rice with a fork and knife.
Hon Minister.…Apology accepted. Sir I asked
the NFF President to call you because I heard,
and authoritatively too, that an agent offered
you one million naira which you collected….
Chief Effiong….Don’t go there….don’t just go
there. A whole country gave my son two
million naira, an individual brought one million
naira and you are querying me…?
Hon Minister…The federal Government’s
donation was an appreciation, one that is
bound to open the flood gates for more of
such. The one million naira from the agent
may be an invitation to slavery, a bet that you
may regret…..
Chief Effiong …What makes you think you
people are the only ones that know about
football?
Hon Minister.…Far from it, we are not the
only ones, but this is our culture medium. We
plan and sincerely too to bring together
experts in the business to sit down with all the
parents of the kids and the kids themselves to
advice on the way forward. We have multiples
examples of bright youngsters whose careers
were destroyed by self seeking and selfish
agents. We do not want that to happen to this
glorious bunch at our disposal.
Let me also congratulate you for being the
father of such a wonderful footballer as I hand
you back to the NFF President
Alhaji Maigari….So sir we are planning to
come and see you.
Chief Effiong….Are you coming alone?
Alhaji Maigari…No sir, I am likely to come
with one of the coaches and the chairman of
the technical committee of the NFF. In fact if
possible with other members of that committee
including Chairman Christian Chukwu, JJ
Okocha, Victor Ikpeba, Garba Lawal…….those
who have seen it all and are in a position to
give wise counsel…….we also have your
country man Paul Bassey in that committee
Chief Effiong……Ah Paul Bassey….we are
proud of him. Tell him I saw him on Tv during
the Algeria Burkina Faso match. He has added
weight…..he is chopping FIFA money….
Alhaji Maigari.. ..We thought so too but when
we confronted him he said the cold forced him
to wear two jackets that is why he appeared
fat…
Chief Effiong …..None of you will admit to
chopping money until we catch you with oil on
your lips. On a serious note, let me know when
you will come because we must celebrate with
a
Alhaji Maigari….. Sir, that will not be
necessary. What we are coming for is serious,
bordering on the future of your child and of
course the sustained sports glory of this
country.
Chief Effiong…. My friend we in this part of
this country are noted for culinary excellence
ask Paul Bassey. Do you know what it means to
be visited by the Award winning NFF president?
I am not talking about all those junk you eat in
hotels….I am talking about home made buffet
that includes afangsoup, edikang ikon, white
soup with goat meat to go with pounded yam,
fresh fish pepper soup……..do you eat dog
meat?
Alhaji Maigari….. No thanks I don’t like it.
Chief Effiong… What is no thanks? How can
you not like what you have not tasted? The day
you eat well prepared dog meat with unripe
plantain to boot that day you will bow…..
Alhaji Maigari…(..laughter)…… I pray that day
does not come ( more laughter) so sir in
summary of what the Honourable minister
said, it is our desire and the wish of all
Nigerians that these boys be guided and
monitored for a better tomorrow. Rather than
collect a one million that is like a one off…
Chief Effiong…. President, forget this one
million….forget it. I have collected it and have
spent it, except you want to refund it…
Alhaji Maigari….. Sir I was saying that rather
than collecting a one off, we will prefer a
500,000 thousand that will come again and
again…..I give you the classic case of Mikel Obi
and how two great clubs Man U and Chelsea
were fighting for him. On paper, Man U was
the better choice, but a lot of other factors
were taken into consideration in counseling
him, including playing regularly and the
presence of Africans in the team that will help
him settle down faster, and today Mikel is one
of the world’s greatest footballers whose
profile rises daily…
Chief Effiong…. Alhaji Maigari, I am not dumb,
I appreciate all you are trying to say…..my
only concern is that you people should
consider the interest of the parents in all that
you do. I could not have invested so much in a
child only for you to come and issue a two
million naira cheque in his name..
Alhaji Maigari…. Sir, again this is a one off.
What we are saying here is a stable future. Go
to Jos and see what Mikel has done to his
parents and siblings…..Kanu, Okocha, Finidi
George, Obafemi Martins. With the benefit of
proper counseling and good upbringing, even
the sky will not be his limit…. Chief Effiong…
Anyway, money is like a spirit. If you don’t
have, no problem, but the moment it enters
your hand you feel like taking a big bottle of
stout with every meal. Besides this agent
looked quite honest and serious…
Alhaji Maigari….. Sir we are not saying all
agents are bad. By the time we know who you
are dealing with, he may just be someone we
can trust.
Chief Effiong…. Ok till you come. You people
must bring something for me and my
wifeoooooo. You are busy chopping CAF and
FIFA money
Alhaji Maigari…. ( laughter )Have I also added
weight? You must be a very interesting person.
Chief Effiong…. See let me tell you, did you
see that first goal my son scored? That was me
in my youth. All I needed from my team mates
was for them to put the ball in my left leg and
off I went. My nick name was okokobioko…….
Alhaji Maigari ( prolonged laughter….)
‘I DID NOT FORCE THEM’: LEBANESE MAN ARRESTED IN ONDO FOR SEXUALLY ABUSING 86 MINORS
A foreigner residing in Ondo has been
apprehended by police operatives in the state
after it was alleged that he had sexually abused
a large number of minors.
The Lebanese man, identified as Jack Sankary,
was reported to have gotten a steady supply of
underaged girls through an accomplice, one
Patience Godwin.
Sankary was arrested after sources from the
Ministry of Women Affairs and Social
Development hinted the police on his illicit
activities.
Nigerian Eye reports:
Sankary was accused of having carnal
knowledge of secondary school pupils. A
source said a 14-year-old girl was found
in Sankary’s Odopetu home by the police.
29-year-old Patience confessed to the
crime, saying she had taken 12-year-old
girls to Sankary many times in exchange
for money.
Over 86 minors were said to have fallen
victim to the suspects.
Police spokesman Wole Ogodo said
Sankary said he did not force the girls to
be intimate with him.
WICKED: NIGERIAN TEENAGER ARRESTED IN ITALY FOR KILLING 60-YEAR-OLD WOMAN
A Nigerian teenager has been arrested by
police in Italy on suspicion of murdering an
elderly female citizen.
Donald Nwajiobi, 18, allegedly took the life of
60-year-old Catherine Susca around the city of
Bari in Southern Italy.
The deceased is believed to have invited
homeless Nwajiobi to her residence for a meal
when he attacked her and left her lifeless half-
clad body with a plastic bag over her head and
her skull crushed in her apartment in Torre a
Mare.
Nigerian Eye reports:
According to investigations, the death of
Catherine Susca was caused by the beating
she received in the course of the attack,
suffocation with a plastic bag dropped on
her head and strangulation with a scarf.
The Nigerian boy, Donald Nwajiobi, who
lives in Bari but homeless, confessed he
killed the woman in self defense after she
attacked him with a pair of scissors and
he also claimed to have acted alone.
However, investigators will verify whether
there were accomplices.
Donald said he had met the victim at
Torre a Mare on the morning of the
incident and asked her for food; the lady
who was in the car asked him to follow
her home with a promise to give him
something to eat.
The police think once in the house,
Donald tried to steal from the woman and
was caught in the act, which would have
led the 60 year old woman into trying to
chase him out of her house with a pair of
scissors, but Donald attacked her and
suffocated her with a plastic bag after
beating her up.
Some money was stolen from the
deceased plus a mobile phone with which
he was tracked down by the police.
Donald was remanded in prison after the
judge, Sergio Di Paola, ruled that it could
be dangerous to free him on bail for he
could kill again and probably flee.

UDOM EMMANUEL AND THE LEADERSHIP CALL
By Aniekeme Finbarr
" A leader takes people where they want to
go. A great leader takes people where
they don’t necessarily want to go, but
ought to be". - Rosalynn Carter
It is trite and
well established by great minds of ages that the
loudest problem of humanity is that of
leadership despite the technological, scientific,
and economic advancements in the global
context. Among such great minds was Confucius.
Confucius (551-479 BC) was a moral philosopher
who lived in an age when China was
characterized by great socio- political unrest
and crass corruption. The mighty Chou dynasty
(1122- 256 BC) had degenerated into a system
of loosely bound feudal states that were engaged
in continuous and interminable warfare, much to
the distress of the common people who
remained at the mercy of the aristocracy. The
great wise one postulated that it is " the way of
the leader", his traits, disposition and good
conscience that can liberate the people from any
socio- political quagmire. Confucianism and its
ideal essence of the way of the leader have
persisted and laid an ethical basis for political,
socio-economic culture of modern-day China.
And like in Confucius' time, quality leadership in
climes like ours has continued to deteriorate
faster than potatoes in an airtight bag. Those
age-long, fundamental and hallowed traits in
leaders have become so rare, scarce and in most
cases completely extinct. Little wonder why, it
evokes a sense of unutterable joy when one
identifies these traits in a 21st century, modern
day Nigerian politician.
My inspiration to deliver this
intellectual offering stems from the exemplary
leadership qualities of Mr Emmanuel in managing
the peculiar, unusually large and dynamic
finance machinery in Nigeria and beyond. His credentials are already public knowledge and there for all to appreciate. His present day contributions are also quite commendable.
The
Godswill Akpabio administration as everyone
knows is a robust, upwardly mobile and
performance driven government. An
administration that has put in stellar
performance to inscribe indelible imprimaturs in
the hitterto dour Akwa Ibom landscape. An
administration that has fumigated the stench
odour of infrastructural rot and decay that
endured in the state prior to the coming of the
uncommon transformer. An administration with
an unflinching commitment to deliver on
electoral promises and even do more. And to fit
into the fast lane, anger- inspired approach to
governance, one must possess lots of
characteristics. Top on the list is humility. Mr Emmanuel as a loyal servant in the Akpabio
administration has displayed rare humility in first accepting the appointment to become SSG without blinking, as risky as the idea sounds. And on the job, early testimonies have emerged of his calm and open disposition to learn and lead. The doors to his office and home have remained
open to lofty ideas, brilliant concepts,
suggestions and criticisms from every angle of
the populace. Everyone who has come in contact
with him has had cause to testify to his listening
disposition and penchant to offer help and
assistance with an infectious smile. He exerts a
rare sense of dedication, commitment and even
benevolence aimed at crystallizing the principal
policy goals of the Dr. Godswill Akpabio.
Mr Udom Emmanuel is a study in servant
leadership. And like Zig Ziggler says “The
ultimate measure of a man is not the number of
servants that he has but the number of people
that he serves”. His seeming unpopularity before his appointment may not be unconnected with it. He has always quietly assisted people within his capacity and often times, these acts do not attract much publicity. And to crown his humble stance,
with all sense of modesty, he situates the drive
and the passion that undergirds the obvious
changes altering the finance landscape as the work of God almighty and those of “HIS BOSS” and
believes whatever success that has been
recorded so far in the course of his career is attributable to the support of his superiors and co-workers and in the case of SSG, to Governor Akpabio, the principal
purveyor of the vision to revamp the system.
Another remarkable trait of Mr Umanah is his
strenght of character. Like his boss, Chief
Godswill Akpabio, CON, he remains unweavered
and resolute in the face of pressure, cheap
blackmail and falsehood from the foes of
government and elements who are immuned to
accepting good things. He knows this terrain could be rough and unfriendly. His uncommon maturity
in approaching issues is remarkable and this has
attracted a firm trust from the people to the
Akpabio administration. General Norman
Schwarzkopf, the army general in charge of the
Persian Gulf War in the early 1990s, thought so
much of character that he said: “Leadership is a
combination of strategy and character. If you
must be without one, be without strategy.”
Because he was a Marine sergeant in the 1960s,
this assertion amazes me since generals spend
much of their time dealing with strategy.
General Schwarzkopf, above all understands that
the troops have to trust their leaders. And in Udom Emmanuel and Chief Akpabio's
administration, the people have trusted.
Udom Emmanuel's drive to succeed speaks volumes of his desire to make it happen in whatever he sets his eyes on, his gargantuan and towering achievements construct a
sharp contrast with his early background of
birth in the then rural Ukanafun Local
Government Area where the father was
teaching and a secondary school education at
Community Secondary School, Ikot Akpan
Eshiet in Onna Local Government Area. It,
however, attest to the fact that with discipline
and hard-work, one can be a success story
irrespective of one’s place of birth and early
life. The University of Lagos Accounting
graduate started his working career with Price
Water House before joining Diamond Bank Plc.
But his career as a corporate strategist
blossomed with Zenith Bank, where he through
dint of hardwork navigated his way to the top
echelon of the bank as an executive director.
He has served in the said capacity since 2006. That is a man success knows by name.
I have been specially
impressed by these fruits of leadership and am
left without a choice than to conclude that if
Aniekan Umanah could deliver excellently in this
capacity, then he could do more if entrusted
with higher responsibilities. He is a savvy ,
purpose-driven, value-maximizing, and
thoroughbred professional whose driving force
hinges on the fundamental need to make a
difference. His strides has had to wield no magic
wand other than his commitment to excellence
which derives its finer stuff from hard work,
dedication, and recourse to endless prayers. This
is what Nigeria needs at times like this. Courage,
Tenacity, and Patience. Having the courage to
stand alone, the tenacity to not succumb to
pressure, and the patience to keep fighting until
you win the day--and sometimes being able to
do all three at the same time--is something you
will have to develop if you want to be a true and
successful leader. Competent leadership is the
first and most important thing any nation that
wants to start the process of reconstruction
must get right. There is no single route to
rebuilding a nation and every route a nation
elects will ultimately succeed as long as the
nation gets its leadership right. We must realize
as a country that, as the saying goes, “A skunk
stinks from the head down,”. We must get it
right with leadership. And the only way to
identify such leadership is to locate persons like Udom Emmanuel who have done well in their
little corners.

5 WAYS TO TURN A WOMAN ON WITHOUT PHYSICAL CONTACT
No, this isn’t about where to kiss her,
and different ways to touch her body.
We are talking about achieving this
without ever laying a finger on her.
Non physical attributes play a big role
in generating attraction with a woman,
and here are 5 that can truly have an
impact.
1. Intelligence
For a lot of women, a smart man is a
sexy man. Knowledge is power, and it
can definitely intrigue a woman.
Having the ability to carry on an
intelligent conversation can have a
very positive effect on a woman.
2. Being Considerate
When you do something considerate, it
can make a woman feel special. And
that can sometimes materialize into a
greater attraction. Being mindful of her
feelings and doing small gestures to
show her you’re thinking about her can
easily win you some points. You’re
pouring into her emotionally and that
makes her much more receptive to you.
3. Ambition
A man with no aspirations and no
drive can be a huge turn off for a
woman. Having passion and a purpose
can really do it for her. It gives off the
energy of a man who is about handling
his business, and a woman loves to see
that.
4. Assertiveness
Most women (if not all) are not turned
on by a man they view as too soft and
passive. Knowing how to be assertive
and putting your foot down at the right
time (in the right way) can cause that
woman to melt right before your eyes.
That doesn’t mean go out and behave
like an a-hole, or treat her like she is

20 QUESTIONS TO ASK A POTENTIAL SPOUSE
So, here are 20
questions to ask a potential spouse.
These are just suggestions, and by no
means should all of them be asked on a
first date. If a question doesn’t feel
right to you, then don’t ask it. Or, just
replace it with one that is not on the
list. The point is to get singles who
desire to be married to think
carefully about what’s important to them and then to have open communication about these issues before marriage. There are plenty of married and divorced people who wish they had asked the tough questions before saying “I do.” 1. Do you have any life-threatening or incurable diseases? 2. Do you have any children? If so, how integral are they in your life? 3. What are your short term and long term goals? 4. What does financial stability mean to you? 5. What is your relationship like with your parents? 6. How often do you go to church, pray, read your Bible? 7. What gives you joy in life? 8. Do you have a criminal history or record? 9. Do you date men or women exclusively? 10. How many s*xual partners have you had? 11. What do you do when you get angry? 12. Do you have a job? How long have you been working/unemployed? 13. What was your last relationship like? How long ago was it? 14. What are you looking for in a mate? 15. Do you have crazy men or women calling, texting, or stalking you? Should I be afraid? 16. Are there many strong marriages in your family history? 17. What’s the one thing you don’t like about yourself? 18. Do you have any deal breakers for relationships? 19. What do you believe are the roles for men and women in relationships? 20. Do you desire to marry? Now, there are no right or wrong answers per se. It all depends on what you deem as important. If a question matters to you, ask the question. Listen to the person’s words but also watch the person’s demeanor. Finally, pray about the answers you receive and ask God to order your next steps in the relationship. He might tell you to walk down the aisle or He might say walk the other way. You will never know until you ask.
RITUALIST INVADE EKITI HOSPITAL, DEMAND NEW BORN BABIES
Gunmen, suspected to be ritualists on Sunday invaded the government hospital located along Irona area in Ado-Ekiti, demanding for new born babies.
lagos-hospital3-300x225
The gunmen who were said to be numbering about five, stormed the hospital at about 1:00 a.m. demanding for a day old babies, and beating up staff who could not give satisfactory answer and leaving them with injuries.
According to a senior health officer who pleaded anonymity, the gunmen, who were fully armed, were rhetorically demanding for the whereabouts of a particular baby, said to have been delivered earlier in the day.
“They got more annoyed when they were told that no baby was available in the hospital as at the time they came, it angered them the more and they went berserk.
“As a senior person on duty, I tried to convince them that all new born babies have been discharged from the centre in the last couple of days, but they refused to be convinced.
“This angered them the more and they descended on the staff beating us, some of them were busy ransacking the place in search of babies,” the source said.
Mr. Tope Olanipekun, Chairman of Ado Local Government, who confirmed the incident, described it as “highest point of callousness on the part of the perpetrators.”
Olanipekun, who claimed to have visited the hospital to see things for himself said, “this is a new twist to crime in the area.”
“As I speak, the incident actually happened and I want to assure you that we are taking step to forestall a recurrence.”
He added that he had already ordered that night duty be suspended in all the hospitals in the council, pending when tight security measures, which would include fencing of all health centres be taken.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Victor Babayemi, ASP, said the incident was yet to be reported to the police command.
He however expressed shock saying he was surprised at the development.

My Husband Took My Panties To Herbalist For Money Rituals” – Pastor’s Wife Exclaims
A woman, Caroline Omoseebi, has asked the Alakuko Customary Court in Lagos State to dissolve her 44-year- old marriage to her husband, Ayemisan, on the ground that he wanted to use her for rituals.
pastor12_350
Caroline alleged before the court that her husband took her panties to a herbalist.
According to her, they got married 44 years ago and have grown up children. She added that they were living in harmony before their marriage started facing challenges.
“He is the one that deflowered me, now he wants to use me for money rituals and has taken my panties to a herbalist. This was why I took my belongings out of his house,” she said.
Caroline further told the court that her carpenter turned pastor husband beat her often and didn’t care for her and the children.
“My husband insisted that he has to be rich by whatever means, and that was why he joined the secret cult. He has put a sign on my child for ritual purpose.
“He even tried to inflict me and one of our children with partial stroke.“Though he is the father of our seven children, I will not go back to his house,” she said.
Ayemisani denied all the allegations. He said that his wife was telling lies against him, adding that he is a pastor. He also alleged that they never had problem until she started moving with bad friends.
“Since she joined the club of bad friends 10 years ago, she has become uncontrollable,” he said.
Ayemisan told the court that he was not ready to divorce his wife and he was ready to change his ways.
The court president, Mr. Godwin Awosola, adjourned the case for judgment with a warning that the couple should maintain peace.

CHRIS NGIGE: "A GOOD MAN" IN A "WRONG PARTY"
In my earlier article on this same subject of the forthcoming Anambra gubernatorial poll titled, “Anambra Gubernatorial Madness”, I had lucidly brought before the eyes of readers of this column, the madness mistaken for political permutations that has become the norm in the buildup to the widely reported Anambra election which takes off few days from today.
In that publication, we looked at the jcial battle that sunk the Ejike Oguebego camp and the Chief Ken Emeakayi faction of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), the uncertainty as to who is the bona fide flier of the PDP flag after two separate primaries fielded two separate candidates in the persons of Mr. Tony Nwoye, a novice in the political turf and Chief Andy Uba whom we referred to the Abraham Lincoln of Anambra politics- not for his political savvy, perhaps never as we shall be belittling the reputation, albeit post humously of one of America’s finest politicians. But rather we took on that analogy basing our comparative analysis on account of their misfortune at elections. People who have trailed the political voyage of Andy Uba will agree with me that he has failed and failed and failed again at different polls. Even the current senatorial seat of Anambra East he seats on today, was brokered in a sham election and flawed judicial process that followed it at the election tribunal.
Ahead of that, we looked at the marathon court judgments and pronouncements, that trailed the selections many called primary elections which in many cases had a parallel congress, Maxi Okwu’s insistence on being the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) National Chairman, Willie Obiano’s sudden emergence out of the blue as APGA’s gubernatorial candidate, Ifeanyi Ubah’s alleged importation of foreigners into the state to garner votes to achieve his political ‘daydreaming’ and finally, Godwin Ezemo’s decamping from the All Progressive Congress (APC) to the Peoples Progressive Alliance (PPA) to test his popularity after the shoddy dealings at APC ensured that Dr. Ch ris Ngige became the party’s flag bearer. In the end a clear headed reader or observer or even the gods will not hold us liable for metaphorically describing the whole jamboree as a “Gubernatorial Madness”. Anambra ronu!
While the political waters gets more intense as the V-day (in the words of Jimanze Alowes of the ‘turf-game’) draws nigh, a keen observer need not be told that the whole tussle will be settled in favour of either of the two big fishes in the continental shelf of the ocean of the fast approaching political ‘tsunami’ viz: Mr. willie Obiano of APGA and Dr. Chris Ngige of the APC which many people have hurriedly reduced as a Yoruba party despite the mantra of calls from the arrowheads in the party to disregard such description of the party as the imagination of naysayers who wish no good for the party and who have no better plans for our nascent democracy. All said and done, the power of the ballot shall be doing a better part of the talking when Anambrarians, finally exercise their franchise come Nov. 16th.
Having established the fact or for the sake of the Thomases of this world, the hypothesis that the election will be a two-Horse race between Dr. Chris Ngige and chief Willie Obiano, we have given today’s column to dissect in our pseudo-theatre and show why majority of the votes will be going the way of the former chief Internal Auditor at Texaco Nig. Plc. Mr. Willie Obiano and not those of Dr. Chris Ngige, the senator representing Anambra Central senatorial district and a former governor of the state whom during his three year stint brought back the lost hope of Ndi Anambra of ever having a feel of the cliché ‘Dividends of Democracy’ after the horrible days of Chinwoke Mbadinuju (who has since gone into political extinction) brought tears to their eyes despite acting on a stolen mandate which later saw the incumbent Peter Obi (who in recent past has been in the eye of the storm for having the temerity to impose a candidate on Anambrarians thereby, rekindling the flames of godfatherism in the state which once brought it to a near standstill) restored as the driver of the ship of state after the Court of Appeal judgment on March 15th 2005,upheld the decision of Justice Nabaruma of the Federal High Court to the effect that Obi was the elected governor. How time flies indeed, Obi has enjoyed and is about to end his constitutional two tenures and here we are trying to see who takes over the helm of affairs at the Awka government house come March 2014 when the would-be elected governor will be formerly sworn into office.
Before we ride on, it is of paramount importance, that we make it clear, or what in my latino-legal lexicon is called a Caveat that this is not some form of campaign strategy for either of the candidates jostling for the plum job as we have never come across any of them either directly or indirectly not even in our dreams, but rather just an effort towards calling a spade a spade and not bathing ourselves in the pool of any illusion or hiding away from the obvious and also to prove critics who always think column writing comes with some honorarium from the coffers of those in whose ‘interest’ it is written, wrong.
In politics just like in any other life adventure, it is a trite that first impression lasts long. It is based on this premise that Dr. Chris Ngige has earned the good will that continues to drive him far in all of his political adventures. His three year stint between 2003 and 2006 was enough to give him all the political CV he needs to tread on any political terrain. Despite being held on the jugular by his political Godfathers, Chris Uba, Olusegun Obasanjo and co, the irrepressible governor refused to be daunted. Instead he stood on the side of the masses and was able to achieve a lot in so short a time before the Court of Appeal, nullified his election and brought to an end a political transformation of Anambra state that was never seen since the inception of New Anambra. Our only consolation was the fact that Peter Obi, who was then a neophyte in the turf of politics, on getting his mandate, also continued from where good Ngige has stopped. Thanks to Ngige’s strides in those three fast years, I was again able to travel from Onitsha to my country home of Umunze, in Orumba South LGA in just about an hour against the previous 4-5 hours due to the bad roads that permeated the axis. Just like the ‘Onwa’ he is often called in traditional circles which literally means ‘a flashing light’ or if you like, the ‘Sun’, he shone across Anambra state and until today, his legacies continue to speak well for him but the good man committed a political blunder when he choose to come back to the Government House Awka, through the wrong door by flying the (APC) flag. Even the gods will not allow that to happen. It is a practice alien to Nigerian democracy and will not be institutionalized in Anambra state at least not now.
No matter how people shy away from the truth, it is always there for them to seek whenever their sanity or conscience is restored. Anambra politics is the centre of Ndigbo Politics. Enugu State may have been the former capital of Eastern Nigeria but in contemporary Igbo Politics, Anambra remains the hallmark of the political journey of Ndigbo towards greater heights little wonder many have described the ruling political party in the state as an Igbo Party that advances the cause of the whole people of Eastern Nigeria even though it is taking forever for its tentacles to spread across neighboring states of Enugu, Ebonyi, Abia. But if its tentacles have refused to cut across these states, it is the more reason why, it must not lost Anambra to another political party just the way, it seems to be losing Imo state under Rochas Okorocha to the progressives. Hence Ndigbo must hold on to the mandate that advances their cause not just on the pages of newspapers or campaign grounds, but most importantly in their heart. I expected Dr. Chris Ngige to be well acquainted with these salient details before declaring to contest in this election but he goofed not knowing it will deal the coup de grace to his political career. If it worked for him, at the senatorial level way back in 2011, it is because Prof. Dora Akunyili incurred the wrath and the ire of many Igbos when she took to the demolition of the Head bridge drug market notorious for the sale of all sorts of bad drugs and narcotics during her spell as the Director General of NAFDAC and thus the only way for them to get their pound of flesh, was denying her their votes at the polls not because Ngige has got anything better to offer but the people of Anambra Central had to give a blind eye to the fact that Ngige was calling for their votes under a wrong platform just to make sure, Madam Dora does not go home smiling. Yes, in politics, there are no permanent enemies but interest and even after the run-off that became necessary to decide who wins the day, Dr. Ngige could only win by the whiskers.
For the avoidance of any doubt, Dr. Chris Ngige, no doubt, is the best candidate for the job. He has got the experience both technical and practical, the onions, the intellectual savvy and the nuts to occupy such office but are you the only one in ‘Israel’ who does not know that things are done differently in this part of the world? True, Willie Obiano, may have spent a good number of his professional career within the precinct of one corporate organization or the other, attending press-conferences, auditing accounts and every other routine that comes with the job of an accountant extraordinaire and may not have gotten the requisite administrative skills that is required for the office he is seeking to occupy, but apart from being in the right political party at the right time(even though many have said that he is a stooge of the incumbent governor), it is not hard to see that a person of his professional stature, will have much difficulty with regards to directing the affairs of Anambra state. His wealth of experience will do him a lot good if he ever gets into the office through the instrumentality of the ballot come Nov 16th. Another factor that puts him in the positive light is the fulfillment of Peter Obi’s promise to make sure a candidate from Anambra North senatorial district succeeds him after his tenure. With this feat, APGA has also achieved an operational balance by electing a candidate from the Northern senatorial district. in this, they have beaten all the other political parties except PDP but who doesn’t know that the PDP has spent much of their time at the courts slogging out who their candidate is even as the clock of electoral battle is about to chime hence losing the critical time to be in contention. Therefore, I was not surprised hearing Alhaji Bamanga Tukur the National Chairman of the Party which has been mired in controversy since after the National Convention expressing his doubt as to PDP’s chances in the gubernatorial election in a recent interview he granted the Leadership Newspaper.
All said and done, it is very difficult to see how Chris Ngige, weathers this particular storm to the skies. He has a history with pulling himself out whenever he is boxed up in a corner and his confidence never fades but a concomitant of factors which every observer of the political space must have been abreast with does not seem to be going his way. The ‘Ndigbo deportation’ saga, the Ofala festival tell-tale, the phrase making the rounds and very easy to gulp that “APC is a Yoruba party”, the late Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu (Ezeigbo Gburugburu) declaration of APGA as his last will, will no doubt; affect his chances at the polls. But come Nov 16th which co-incidentally is the birthday of Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe whose defunct eastern political platform National Council of Nigeria and the Cameroun (NCNC) had the insignia of a Cock and which APGA has also replicated we shall see how that one pans out. But clear headed pundits will not need a Prophet Isaiah to tell them how the election will be decided.
During the 2011 presidential elections, a particular phrase became popular among the teeming electorates who preferred the candidacy of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to that of GMB to this effect, “I am not voting for the PDP; but on the contrary for GEJ” and at the end of the day, GEJ emerged the president on account of the votes cast in his favour. Come November 16th, will Anambrarians vote for the candidate of their choice or will they vote for the political party of their choice? The latter option seems convincing to me, what about you? Let Anambra decide wisely. I will sit at my vantage point, and see in whose favour the pendulum swings.

ARC NYAETOK: THE GOLDEN TROJAN MARCHES ON
ARC EZEKIEL NYA-ETOK: THE GOLDEN TROJAN
MARCHES ON!
By Aniekeme Finbarr
“Forty is the old age of youth; fifty the youth of
old age|”-Victor Hugo.
He is a man you must definitely fall in love with,
I mean at first sight. Baby faced, grey hairs,
disarming smile, graceful, classy and ravishing. A
man exceptionally blessed by nature with a
distinctively seductive charm powered by finely
chiseled features and endearing frame. His
sparkling well-shaped face invites you to a
unique personality and that comely face finishes
off with a robust cheek and supple chin. His
eyes, ever bright, firmly rooted and boldly
looking out from their sockets. The portrait of
his face is incomplete if you never notice the
dark, curly and defining moustache sitting atop
his well curved nostrils. His mouth is put into
place by a pair of chubby, pinkish and smooth
lips. And to compliment his striking and snazzy
outlook is a crawling pair of rainbow-like curved
eyebrows. The totality of his face emits
innocence, confidence, integrity and finesse. I
invite you to meet the boy at 50, Architect
Ezekiel Nyaetok.
The name Ezekiek Nya-Etok will conjure in your
mind many images; a man of many parts and
multiple mix. Politician, technocrat, architect,
writer, motivator, mentor, broadcaster, husband
and father. Acclaimed across all over Nigeria as
the leading crusader of affordable Housing for
the poor, low and medium income earners, little
wonder why he is called Mr. Social Housing. He
recently turned 50 and has been attracting a
plethora of messages of goodwill. His life has
indeed been a study in success and hard work,
passion and excellence. His gentlemanly
credentials are further appreciated from the
dapper dignity of his appearance to the brisk,
pragmatic intentions of his movements, the
wisdom, insight of his writings, the clear and
precise tone of his speeches and the authority
and discipline with which he carries himself in
his private and public lives. He exhibits an
uncommon and calm disposition, never wavering
in his inner strength and belief in God. A well
exposed and widely traveled man, committed,
dedicated and confident ever to succeed. He is
not easily angered, very patient and listens to all
sides before taking a stand. Arc Nya-etok
reposes confidence in people, especially in the
younger generation, a meticulous man, prudent
in his managerial projections and will not dare
pursue anything in life that have not satisfied
his critical and measured standards.
Friday, 1st November, 1963, has found its way
into the history books for all good reasons and
will remain there for eternity. A certain beautiful
woman went into labour and expected a baby.
Her bundle of joy came forth and behold, she
smiled. It was a boy. Baby Ezekiel was born. The
pains of labour were gone. The Prophet Jeremiah
had equally had a word about this baby, “Before
I formed you in the womb I knew and approved
of you as my chosen instrument, and before you
were born I separated and set you apart,
consecrating you…” And young Ezekiel grew
under the watch of his parents with the fear of
the lord. The turning point in his life came when
he gained admission to the Prestigious Federal
Government College, Warri in Delta State, where
he mingled with other youths from every part of
Nigeria and the world. He was an outstanding
student. He couldn’t have ended it there. He
proceeded to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka
and at the Enugu Campus studied Architecture.
Arc Nyaetok’s academic records are a clear
testimony of his intelligence, hard work and
perseverance. He currently is the CEO of Novone
Consults, an architectural firm with its Head
Office in Abuja. At 25, he was done and dusted
with the basics in life. He hooked up the love of
his life; Chika, who was already a doctor at 22
and sailed on to marital bliss. The union is
blessed with 2 lovely boys, Aniekan and Iniabasi
and a pretty girl, Eme. Aniekan, his first son
already holds a Masters degree from Manchester
University.
At 50, I have been so impressed with the strides
of Arc. Nyaetok. The fruits of his life so far can
be likened to course worthy to be studied by
anybody wishing to succeed in life. His
commitment to the plight of the low and
medium income earners in getting affordable
housing is legendary. I cannot dare say more.
The words of Senator (Dr) Bukar Abba Ibrahim,
CON, FNIQS, FNIAE, Chairman, Senate
Committee on Lands, Housing and Urban
Development says it all “…Finally, today is a
special day and I want to use this opportunity to
extend the warm felicitations of the Senate of
the Federal Republic of Nigeria to a man who
has been a friend and a partner-in- progress to
the Senate, and the people of Nigeria, Architect
Nyaetok Ezekiel who turns 50 years of age. When
the Bill was being considered at the floor of the
Senate, he was at the Senate gallery. We thank
Almighty God for keeping him to attain the
golden age of 50 years. National Honours
should be bestowed on people like Architect
Nyaetok, who invested the last quarter of a
decade to fighting the cause of shelter for the
less priviledged. On account of his dogged
determination, social housing has become a
mantra and today, a full chapter of the new
approved National Housing Policy is devoted to
Social Housing. This is soon to be followed by
an approved Social Housing Bill by the grace of
God|”
Even in politics, Arc Nyaetok has demonstrated
enough commitment to the growth of his
immediate community, state and country. He
threw his hat into the ring in 2007 and vied to
be Governor of Akwa Ibom State. I am left
without a choice than to conclude that if Arc
Nyaetok could impart humanity and deliver
excellently with his present capacity, then he
can surely do more with more. I specially
celebrate him as a mentor, a savvy, purpose-
driven, value-maximizing and thoroughbred
professional whose driving force hinges on the
fundamental need to make a difference. His
achievements have had no magic wand other
than his commitment to excellence which
derives its finer stuff from hard work,
dedication and recourse to endless prayers. This
is one birthday too big for one day to contain.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SIR!
